Strategic Purchaser - Financial Services Partnerships
About the Role
As part of the Spendesk Finance team, you will join a strategic team delivering payment features and financial services to Spendesk's customers while driving our transformation towards profitable growth.
In our growth phase with proprietary payment infrastructure across Europe, you will manage strategic partnerships with tier-1 financial service providers (Visa,Adyen, Wise, etc.) while building scalable procurement frameworks that support:
- Revenue optimization through improved gross margins from FS partnerships
- Operational excellence via streamlined vendor management and AI-driven capabilities
- Risk mitigation through diversified, high-quality partner portfolio
- Compliance adherence with EOSP/DORA regulatory requirements
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership Management (40%)
- Vendor Portfolio Optimization: Manage relationships with 20+ existing financial service providers, focusing on performance optimization, cost reduction, and revenue enhancement
- Strategic Sourcing: Be the key partner to Product Manager for RFP processes for new FS partnerships covering core services and emerging opportunities
- Performance Management: Implement comprehensive KPI tracking including:
- Financial metrics: Cost per transaction, gross margin impact, ROI analysis
- Operational metrics: SLA compliance, uptime percentage, incident response times
- Risk indicators: Financial stability scores, security incident tracking, compliance rates
- Contract Optimization: Drive contract negotiations focusing on variable pricing models, performance-based SLAs, and strategic partnership terms
Regulatory & Risk Management (25%)
- EOSP/DORA Compliance: Ensure full compliance with essential/other service provider supervision requirements including governance frameworks, audit protocols, and regulatory reporting
- Risk Assessment: Conduct continuous vendor risk assessments covering financial stability, operational resilience, cybersecurity posture, and geopolitical exposure
- Incident Management: Facilitate vendor-related incident response, root cause analysis, and remediation planning
- Documentation & Audit: Maintain comprehensive vendor documentation for regulatory audits and internal compliance reviews
Financial & Commercial Excellence (20%)
- Budget Management: Support annual budget planning for FS partnerships, including cost forecasting, variance analysis, and ROI optimization
- Commercial Negotiation: Drive pricing negotiations, payment terms optimization, and performance-based commercial structures
- Financial Analysis: Provide detailed financial analysis on partnership performance, including impact on gross margins
-Business Case Development: Build compelling business cases for new partnerships and vendor consolidation initiatives
Process Innovation & Automation (15%)
- AI Integration: Use AI-powered tools for partnership performance monitoring, predictive analytics, and automated reporting
- Process Optimization: Design scalable vendor management processes supporting business growth while maintaining operational efficiency
- Knowledge Management: Build internal expertise and best practices documentation for FS partnership management
What We're Looking For
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in financial services procurement, partnership management, or vendor management within fintech/banking environment
- Deep FS Industry Knowledge: Proven experience with payment processors, card networks, banking infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks
- Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated success in complex commercial negotiations and vendor performance optimization
- Analytical Skills: Advanced Excel/data analysis skills with experience in financial modeling and KPI development
Preferred Qualifications
- Fintech Experience: Previous experience at high-growth fintech companies
- Technical Understanding: Knowledge of payment rails, APIs, and financial technology infrastructure
- Project Management: Experience with large-scale vendor transitions and system integrations
- Languages: Fluent in French and English; additional European languages a plus
