Engineering Manager Platform
Spendesk is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Platform team. This team manages Spendesk’s entire technical infrastructure: the cloud foundation, Kubernetes runtime, CI/CD, networking, security guardrails, and core platform services that every application and service runs on.
Reporting to the CTO, you will define the platform vision and partner with product engineering to improve developer velocity, reliability, security, and cost efficiency across the company. This is a high‑impact leadership opportunity at the core of Spendesk’s SaaS platform, where your work will directly accelerate innovation and empower every product team. You’ll shape the systems, automation, and paved roads that drive scale, resilience, and a world‑class developer experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Own and deliver an 18‑month platform roadmap with clear ROI, KPIs, and cost targets.
- Operate and evolve Spendesk’s core infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), networking, CI/CD, observability, secrets/identity, and security guardrails.
- Set platform standards (security baselines, IaC) and provide golden paths and self‑service.
- Ensure reliability with SLOs, robust incident management/on‑call, capacity planning, and DR.
- Scale CI/CD, GitOps, and release practices to simplify and de‑risk delivery.
- Lead FinOps governance, manage budgets, and reduce unit costs.
- Build, coach, and hire for the Platform team; align stakeholders with objective prioritisation and clear communication.
- Champion developer experience and thoughtful AI adoption.
Required Qualifications
Experience & Background
- 8-12 years in platform/infrastructure roles with increasing leadership scope.
- 3-5 years managing a technical team of 5+ engineers.
- Proven delivery of complex, multi‑stakeholder platform programs on time and budget.
- Experience designing and operating scalable, cloud‑native architectures.
- Track record of building engaged, high‑performing teams.
Technical Requirements
- Deep knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes (EKS), ArgoCD, Terraform, Datadog, and GitHub Actions.
- Strong in Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, container orchestration, networking, and security.
- Solid grasp of security and privacy frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, GDPR), observability/SLOs, and disaster recovery.
- Experience building standardized CI/CD, paved roads, and developer self‑service.
Leadership & Communication
- Earns technical credibility with engineers; clear, structured communication to technical and business audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management with objective prioritisation and trade‑off articulation.
- Demonstrated coaching, feedback, and career development for engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fintech, SaaS, or other regulated industries.
- Scale‑up background (50-500 employees) and a platform product mindset (DX focus).
- Comfortable leveraging AI tools to improve developer workflows and speed.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
